Port Ambrose is a proposed
deepwater port for the import or export of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The port, which would allow LNG vessels to directly connect to the
region’s natural gas system, would be located south of Jones Beach and
east of Monmouth Beach, NJ. Much
controversy surrounds this project. Among other advantages, proponents
feel the port would introduce a substantial new source of competitively
priced natural gas into the downstate New York area. Opponents question
the financial benefits and cite environmental concerns. For more

Local officials urge residents
to assemble a disaster preparedness kit, make a plan and learn of the
risks associated with hurricanes. The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from
June to November, with peak season from mid-August to late October. Having
an updated and accurate Family Emergency Plan is a key component to
planning for hurricane season. The unique needs of family members, such as
the elderly, infants, those with special needs and any pets should be
considered. Also, you should inquire about what plans are in place at work
and schools in case of emergency. |

The Wantagh School District’s
top administrator is recommending to the board of education that a
full-day kindergarten program be included in the 2013/14 budget proposal.
Wantagh Board of Education President Michael Cucci said full-day kindergarten will be discussed during upcoming budget
workshops to determine if it can be included in the 2013/14 spending plan
while abiding with the state’s mandated tax cap. This survey question was
also presented in 2007 April and in 2005 July, with somewhat similar
outcomes. |

After years of lawsuits and
counter-lawsuits, it was mother nature that scrapped the "Trump on the
Ocean" project. Sandy’s tidal surge during the perfect-storm of
high tide and full moon, caused millions of dollars in devastation to
Jones Beach, including destruction of the boardwalk and sand dunes. While
the boardwalk is now under repair and the dunes are being reconstructed,
the community appears to have very mixed feelings on the nixing of Trump's
plans.
