In September 2004, the Long Island Power Authority approved a 20-year
contract with Neptune Regional Transmission System LLC to construct and
operate an undersea high-voltage transmission system capable of supplying
approximately 660 megawatts to Long Island by 2007. The system will
include a transmission line that will extend from Sayreville, NJ and
travel about 51 miles beneath the New York Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean.
After making landfall, south of Jones Beach, the cable will be installed
underground beneath the Wantagh State Parkway for a distance of
approximately 14 miles. It will head north to the Duffy Avenue converter
station before heading back under the Wantagh Parkway to the Newbridge
Road substation in Levittown, where it will interconnect with the LIPA
system. For more information, please visit the following link:

proposed for the vacant lot at 2033 Wantagh Avenue. However at a recent

strong opposition to this idea, citing traffic and parking concerns. The
results of this survey parallel that sentiment, and as of this writing,
the lot is up for sale. For more information, please visit the following
