Renovation of Wantagh's train station was completed this
fall, and clearly our community is very happy with the results. The newly
constructed building features a spacious and bright waiting area
surrounded with windows. Also included in this upgrade project were new
public phones, new brick pavements, a new news stand, new iron benches,
additional ticket machines and new garbage receptacles. Other, more subtle
improvements were also made, such as the upgraded pigeon proofing.
A special thanks to the Long Island Railroad for the
successful completion of this project! |
2002 October:
Should hidden cameras be used in Wantagh to deter crime? |

61% Yes
36% No
3% Don't Care
(181 responses received) |
Although Wantagh continues to enjoy a relatively low crime
rate, by no means are we immune to misdoings such as robberies and
vandalism. Aside from the direct property loss and personal harm, crime
can indirectly affect us. For example, plans for the Garden of Hope were
significantly revised to remove figures and to use more robust foliage, in
an effort to make it less susceptible to vandalism.
While some studies show that hidden cameras can reduce
crime, one potential cost of this added vigilance is invasion of our
privacy. However, in this age of uncertainty, it seems that a strong
majority in our community is willing to give up some privacy for an
increased sense of security. |
2002 September:
Do you like
the new name of the Jones Beach Theater? |

7% Yes
88% No
5% Don't Care
(115 responses received) |
The amphitheater at Jones Beach, recently underwent a name
change from the "Jones Beach Theater" to "Tommy Hilfiger at Jones Beach
Theater". While this venue remains one of the top ranked amphitheaters in
the country, apparently many residents are disappointed by this
over-commercialization of our State Park monuments.
Needless to say, no disrespect to the Tommy Hilfiger
company is intended. It is noted that many in our community appreciate the
cultural contributions of the Theater, and the quality products provided
by Tommy Hilfiger. |
